News: Adventures at Lincoln
S
tudents at Lincoln are getting stoked on life through a program that exposes them to outdoor adventures including surfing, rock climbing, snorkeling, camping, capoeira, mountain biking, and hiking.
Now completing its third year at Lincoln, Ms. Profit has been the Lincoln High School Adventure Club advisor for the past two years. She has dedicated extensive amounts of time and energy toward what she feels is a great cause. As advisor, Ms. Profit hosts weekly club meetings in her classroom, often sacrificing lunch and after school time. Some other responsibilities she has include organizing trips and supervising and orchestrating various adventurous outings. Though she has many responsibilities, Ms. Profit feels she has not only “reaped a lot of benefits, but has helped students to do the same.”
Eleventh grade Center for the Arts student, Julia Dixon, says she is very grateful for Ms. Profit and all that she does for the Adventure Club. “Ms. Profit has donated countless hours and weekends to supervising trips to places all over California. My favorite trip was to Joshua Tree, even though it was freezing cold the entire trip. Ms. Profit selflessly donates her time and energy to the Adventure Club, even without financial backing,” stated Dixon.
The Adventure Club is a branch of the non-profit organization Outdoor Outreach, whose mission is to empower at-risk and underprivileged youth to make positive, lasting changes in their lives through comprehensive outdoor programming. There are four other high schools besides Lincoln that currently reap the benefits Outdoor Outreach has to offer: Crawford High School, San Pasqual Academy, Barrio Logan College Institution, and The Monarch School.
Anyone interested in taking advantage of all the wonderful things the Adventure Club has to offer should see Ms. Profit in the Center for Public Safety (room 373) for more information.
