ights went out, curtains rose, and there stood the whole cast of Grease singing their alma mater. In December of 2009, in the Lincoln High School theatre, Mr. Donald Robinson, Arts Coordinator, brought together students of different age groups and races to put on the third musical since Lincoln’s re-opening.

It was fantastic because there was never a dull moment. Most importantly, though, it showed how students of different cultures and ethnicities could come together and reveal hidden talents. Dorema Randle, sophomore, who played one of the main ladies, Sandy, commented on her own surprise when she stated, “One of best things about being a part of the Grease cast was learning I had things inside me I didn’t even know about.”

Students were able to prove that there’s more to people than we see at first glance. Vocal/Music Director, Mrs. Sharletta Richardson, said, “The best part of being a part of Grease was seeing the students develop right before your eyes.” She also said that Senior Kariesha Handley had the biggest change. Kariesha has been involved in arts for five years, but never got the chance to show her talents. She shocked not only herself, but also everyone else who heard her voice.

Putting on a show can be really stressful. People have many different personalities and some people may not get along. When asked how working together went, senior Bri’Aja Lloyd, who played the part of Marty, said, “Personalities clashed at first until more time was spent together and it began to feel like one big family.”

Its nice how students of different age groups and grades came together to pull off a play because it shows that students can come together and work effectively. I recommend everyone go see the next production, which will be Raisin In The Sun and Once on this Island. Remember, “We go together!”
